Lauren Massey, Nurse Practitioner
Lauren Massey (she/her/hers) is Burkhart Pediatric & Adolescent Dermatology’s (BPAD) Nurse Practitioner. A native North Carolinian, Lauren was born and raised in Southern Pines and moved to Raleigh for college where she continues to live now with her husband, daughter, son, and dog. Lauren earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating with distinction. While in nursing school, Lauren began working as a nursing assistant in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at UNC Hospital. After graduation, she worked as a registered nurse in the PICU, where she cared for critically ill infants, children, and teens. She went on to gain outpatient nursing experience at UNC Children’s Specialty Clinic in Raleigh, caring for children being treated in a wide range of pediatric sub-specialties, including Allergy/Immunology, Pulmonology, Cardiology, GI/Feeding, Genetics, and Endocrinology, among others. In 2017, she was awarded Nurse of the Year at UNC Children’s Specialty Clinic.
Lauren went on to complete her Master of Science in Nursing from UNC Chapel Hill and become a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She began her Nurse Practitioner career in pediatric primary care, traveling to her hometown of Southern Pines where she cared for the pediatric population in the community she called home for many years. She gained invaluable experience and knowledge working alongside the doctors and nurse practitioners that cared for her as a patient growing up.
As a Nurse Practitioner, Lauren feels fortunate to have the opportunity to get to know the families in her community and be trusted with the health care of their children. She looks forward to providing specialized and personalized dermatological care to the pediatric and adolescent population.
Outside the Office
Lauren enjoys spending time outdoors with her family, gardening, and cooking. She loves to travel to both the beach and mountains of North Carolina with her family. She and her husband have made traditions out of traveling to the North Carolina Outer Banks, as well as going snow skiing together. More recently, they traveled out West to visit a few national parks, and are eager to see more as soon as they can!
“All of my family loves Dr. Burkhart. I have several children and have been to many dermatologists. He is the best and all my kids go to him now. I wish I was able to be his patient too, but he only sees children.”
